The Grand Scoobah

I created this site as a place to gather my thoughts and compile the things I’ve learned in the course of my transition out of active engagement as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It also serves as an outlet to vent my frustrations into the void of the internet. While I no longer believe in or follow the teachings of the religion founded by Joseph Smith, I do still identify as Mormon by virtue of my cultural heritage and upbringing. In the course of learning more about Mormonism and the history of the Mormon people, I have become completed fascinated in the subject of Mormon Studies, and what I learn I hope to share in some part on this site. My goal is not to lead people away from Mormonism, but to organize and record my own thoughts primarily for my own benefit. Whether you find anything I share here informative and useful, or offensive and blasphemous, I encourage you to leave me a comment. The thoughts shared here are my own, and I am open to civil discourse on any idea or perspective that I share here or elsewhere.

For the time being, my profile is anonymous, because many whom I care about are particularly sensitive about topics relating to the Mormon faith. It is the unfortunate reality that former members of the LDS church are expected to leave in silence if they leave at all, and any thoughts or sentiments shared that are critical of the church are interpreted as personal attacks or insults. Out of respect to my believing friends and family who share such sentiments, and because of the value I place on these relationships, I choose to keep my identity private for the present.

In a similar spirit, I encourage you to exercise good judgement in how you choose to share information from this site, and to recognize that the opinions and perspectives I share hereon might be interpreted as offensive and blasphemous to others—particularly highly orthodox adherents of the Mormon faith. Therefore, I would discourage you from using this site as a means to deconvert others or in ways that may damage relationships with friends or family members. Again, the purpose of this site is not to attack Mormonism or deconvert individuals from the faith, but to collect and organize my own thoughts and experiences as someone who was raised in and has transitioned out of the faith. If you ignore this advice and use my content to burn bridges with friends or loved ones, consider the fault your own.
